Some days remind you exactly why you started, and Thursday was one of them.
Amber and I took the day off from our 9-to-5s (jobs we genuinely like, for the record) to sit in on an AASHTOWare training. It's the system used for prevailing wage reporting, and while it isn't the most glamorous way to spend a day off, our trades and labor clients deserve people who understand their world inside and out. So we showed up, took notes like we were back in school, and walked out better equipped to support them.
Of course, a day of learning deserves a reward, so we headed straight for Mexican food and margaritas. What started as a quick bite turned into hours of laughing, working, crying and laughing all over again. Amber and I have a way of filling each other's cups, whether it's over the phone, by text or across a table. Life has been heavy for both of us lately, and that time together was something we needed more than either of us had said out loud.
From there, I went to watch my girl try out for the high school team. She's only in eighth grade, but she has put in the work, and watching her love sports the way I do is one of my favorite parts of being her mama. I got to know both coaches, mentioned that I coach too, and we hit it off right away. I'm still teaching her what it means to lock in, to know when it's time to be serious even when her friends are right there, because that child has so much potential and I'll do everything in my power to make sure she knows it and uses it.
After a quick reset at home, I was back out the door for my friend Janay's round table. A few people had to cancel, which turned the evening into something intimate with just Janay, Amber and me, and honestly, it was perfect. The restaurant did its best to test our patience with the service and the attitude, but the food was good enough that they live to see another day. 😂
Through all of my running in and out, my husband held everything down at home. I barely saw him all day, but he made sure everyone was taken care of so I could show up for my work, my friends and my daughter without worrying about a thing. That kind of love doesn't always look loud, but I feel it every time, and I can't wait to spend my whole weekend with my man.
All in all, Thursday was a 10/10. It reminded me that I can still live a full life, one with work I'm proud of, friends who pour into me as much as I pour into them, a daughter I'm cheering on from the sidelines and a husband who makes it all possible. The key is balance, and remembering that I don't have to say yes to everything.
Someone near and dear to my heart sent me this note, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since:
God is reminding you that you don't have to carry everything and everyone. There is strength in surrendering what was never yours to hold.
If you needed that today too, consider this your sign.
Franny out! 💛
